Woven by Hand, Carried with Purpose.

Each bag is a testament to the skill, patience, and spirit of the women who craft them, deep in the heart of Madagascar.

The artisans of Madagascar

Every thread tells a story. Every stitch carries a woman's intention, her family, her village, her future.

Born from the Hands of Women

In a small village along the verdant highlands of Madagascar, a community of women have been weaving for generations. Their hands, steady, skilled, and sure, transform raw raffia into objects of quiet beauty.

LACAUSA discovered these artisans not by accident, but by seeking something real. Something made with intention, rooted in place, and built to endure. What we found was not just a craft, but a calling.

Each bag in our Madagascar collection is entirely handmade, woven, shaped, and finished by the same women whose livelihoods we are proud to support.

Raffia, Patience, and Tradition

Made from sustainably harvested raffia, a natural palm fiber native to Madagascar, each bag takes days to complete. The process cannot be rushed. It is learned young, passed from mother to daughter, refined over a lifetime.

The distinctive bucket silhouette, the tightly coiled button detail, the generous open hobo form, each design element emerges from the weaver's hands without templates or machines. No two bags are identical. The slight variations are not imperfections. They are signatures.

When you carry a LACAUSA bag, you carry something irreplaceable: proof that slow, human, meaningful work still exists, and still matters.

The TANA Tote

Inspired by Antananarivo, Madagascar.

Chic and culturally connected.

Named for the vibrant capital city of Madagascar, known locally as Tana, this bag carries the spirit of a place where ancient tradition and modern elegance meet on every cobblestone street.

The TANA Tote is structured yet relaxed, minimal yet deeply crafted. Its tapered bucket silhouette and signature woven button closure are a quiet nod to the architectural beauty and artisan heritage of Antananarivo. Wear it as a statement. Carry it as a connection.

The Material

  • Biodegradable & Renewable

Raffia returns to the earth at the end of its life, leaving nothing behind but the memory of beautiful things.

  • Harvested Without Harm

  • Lightweight Yet Enduring

Deceptively strong, raffia resists stretching and wear, bags that travel with you for years, not seasons.

  • Raw & Natural by Design

Left in its sun-kissed, undyed state, the warm neutral tones you see are raffia exactly as nature made it.

LACAUSA, Madagascar Collection

“Handwoven from sustainably harvested natural raffia fibers sourced in Madagascar, where slow fashion is not a trend. It is a way of life.”

We don’t just source from communities. We invest in them.

A portion of every LACAUSA Madagascar bag purchase flows directly back to the village. We partner with the artisans on production, fair compensation, and long-term sustainability, ensuring that their craft can thrive for the generations to come.
